Chapter 9 - Rudy

Hello! I'll hand the story over for Rudy to tell just as soon as I catch you all up to speed. After I finished playing through the last chapter of this apo my game completely crashed and I hadn't back up my hood in awhile. The most recent copy I had of this family was a whole generation behind where the last chapter ended. I thought about giving up and not finishing but I got a burst of encouragement one day and decided to play the family back to where I left off. That did mean a few changes though.

Vince, Rudy and Jane weren't even born in the previous version I had. In fact their father, Doug, was still a child in the game. I used boolprop to get him aged up quickly so he could start producing babies with Marina. In order to ensure the correct gender was born I saved right before Marina gave birth each time...if she had the right gender I saved again, if not though I exited without saving. The baby's sex and genetics were changed each time I re-entered the lot. I just waited until the right gender was born before I saved after the births. It was impossible to get the genetics to be the same as before but at least I got the right gender.

After Doug and Marina had their three children I used boolprop to age them up to elders. I know Marina wasn't an elder yet in my previous version but she was close so I just went with it. Don't they look so cute together?

Jon and Simdra were both adults still in the previous version I had so I aged them to elders and let them live out their lives until they died naturally. They had both past on before I aged Doug and Marina up to elders.

The only noticeable side effect to using my backup version of the family was all the family graves that were previously in the yard had disappeared so these graves are all that was left.

Journal Entry

I remember the day my brother met Cass at the mall. He came home and complained about this woman who kept following him around. The two became friends over the phone in the following weeks but he didn't seem interested in a relationship with her. Then one day he threw a party and invited her over along with a friend from work. While he chatted with his co-worker I got to know Cass a little and thought she was fantastic. She was super talkative and had lots of powerful friends in the neighborhood.

Perhaps, I should have talked it over with Vince first but he never mentioned any romantic interests he had for her so I made my move. Besides, he would have never treated her the way she deserves to be treated. My immediate interest in Cass may be have slightly skewed but at least I didn't want to date every woman in the neighborhood like Vince.

The next day Vince, Jane and I sat down together to grab a bite to eat. I knew I needed to make sure Vince was okay with Cass and I being together but neither of us could focus on anything other then Jane eating spoiled food when there was fresh food on the counter next to her. Sometimes I wonder if she's missing a few marbles.

Before I got another chance to ask Vince how he felt about Cass and I dating I saw him smacking lips with Sandy Bruty. I nearly went blind. I don't even want to imagine what kind of distorted faces any children they had together would look like. I never bothered asking Vince about Cass after that.

Cass and I dated for a couple months and it wasn't long before I asked her to move in. She already had an entry level job in Law Enforcement and was trying to move up the ladder. I knew she didn't really like working but she figured the sooner she topped a career the sooner she could stop working.

In her older years my mother took a surprising interest in nature. On the days the ground wasn't covered in snow she enjoyed hunting for bugs. I can't say I understand it but whatever makes her happy.

My not so intelligent sister got fired from her job. It would have been rather nice if she could have become a Rock Goddess so we could get rid of eternal winter.

After weeks of searching for another job she finally found one in journalism. I hope she does better this time around.

Vince is an aspiring politician. He seems to be doing quite well...maybe it's all those woman he schmoozes when their husbands aren't around.

After years of struggling with her weight Cass is finally kicking herself into shape. She says her weight has fluctuated up and down over the years but she hopes this time she can keep it off.

If Jane spent a little bit more time doing research on writable topics rather then smooth talking the neighbors she'd have a much better chance of moving up in her career. Her lack of effort in her career is nearly unbearable to me.

Poor, Cass. She worked so hard to get in shape only to find out she's pregnant. She's thrilled about the baby coming though. Hopefully, she'll bounce right back to where she was before she got pregnant.

Cass later admitted she had the whole pregnancy all planned. She knew in her current role she'd have enough scheduled days off at the end of her pregnancy so wouldn't have to quit her job. The last day she went to work before her scheduled days off she made sure she went in a bad mood so she wouldn't be promoted. That day her boss asked her a strange question and when she finished answering he had a giant grin on his face. He said that's exactly what he wanted to hear and promoted her to the next position. She was so upset. Now, she'd have to quit her job and find a new one after the baby was born. At the time her boss didn't know she was pregnant.

Vince never said anything about Cass and I but I suppose it's because he never even thought about her like that. That in itself just amazes me though since he's always entertaining a different girl.

I have to nearly push Jane out the door every morning so she'll go to work. She's always dragging her feet. Her job can't be that bad. All she has to do is write about various things. She'd be great at writing a dating column.

Late one night when I was sound asleep Cass went into labor. I'm not sure how I didn't wake up to Cass' screams but my sister's screams would have made you'd think she was the one in labor.

She gave birth to a healthy baby boy named Daniel. I'm not too sure about this parenting thing but Cass is excited about it so that helps a little.

The next afternoon I sat down with my parents and sister to talk about fatherhood. My parents knew I was always skeptical about the idea of being a dad so they reassured me that I would figure it out soon enough. My sister actually offered to help in the daily chores of feeding and bathing him.

My dad didn't enjoy nature nearly as much as my mom did but he loved her and would do what he needed to spend time with her. I've never bothered bird watching but I have to imagine it's not that much fun. Maybe I'll change my mind about that though as I get older. Time will tell.

My mom had collected quite a lot of bugs, butterflies and spiders during all her hunting. Nobody understood exactly why they had to be displayed in the living room but we all got over that in time.

My mom and Cass had grown close over the last couple years. I think my mom liked Cass the minute my brother told her about how they met. She always had an extra soft spot for her probably because she was one of the few people that knew how to get under Vince's skin.

With all the time I've put in to polishing the skills I need for this position and with Cass' powerful friends in the neighborhood I should be promoted to Business Tycoon any day now.

Vince has decided to run for mayor and is doing whatever he can to make sure that happens. There's no woman he wouldn't kiss to secure that seat.

Even though the day had to come eventually I'm not sure anyone can ever be prepared to lose a parent. At first he didn't seem ready but when he saw the hula girls and was handed a fruity drink he smiled and went freely.

If only he could have made it through one more day, he would have seen me become a Business Tycoon and Vince become Mayor.

Just as I never could have gotten to the top so quickly without Cass' friends, Vince couldn't have done it without all those needy woman wanting attention.

Jane is just as bad as Vince though. She hangs on a different guy each week. I don't know where they get it either. Both our parents were always rather reserved. Maybe they just want to rebel.

Grandma Sandra had some rebeling to do of her own one night. I guess she scared Jane pretty well during one of her dates. Serves her right. She should focus on her career, not every man that walks by.

We all knew it was only a matter of time before mom past away but Vince wasn't ready to let go yet. He tried preventing the whole situation but it didn't matter. The grim reaper came for our mom and that's what he left with.

The family had to move on though. Daniel's first birthday was a few days later and we wanted to make it a good one.

He definitely got our family's nose.

With Vince deciding to move out on his own and the option to now build a home larger then 8 X 8 square tiles Jane, Cass, Daniel and I decided to move out of our family home to a new place. It's so much larger then I ever could have imagined.

On the left side of the lot is a two car garage with an attached greenhouse.

The main floor of our home is huge. The front door leads into a small family business we hope to get up and running when Daniel gets older. From there you walk into an enormous living area which leads to the kitchen, a second master bedroom and bath, a guest bath, and a study.

On the second floor is the master bedroom and bath, and three smaller bedrooms. The house also has a basement but we mostly just use it for storage.

A short while after we moved in it became apparent Cass was pregnant again. I still wasn't so sure about the whole parenting thing and another child would only delay the opening of our family business even longer. I've got to tell Cass we can't have anymore kids after this one. I'm just not cut out to be a dad.

Over the years Cass and I have became the best of friends. Yes, obviously we're more then just friends but I've never trusted anyone the way I trust her. Life is so easy around her. It's nice.

In honor of our mother I decided to put the greenhouse to use. I know she would have loved gardening. It took several hours to get all the soil fertilized and by then it was too late to plant the seeds so I went to bed.

I was taken aback the next morning when I found Jane already in the greenhouse planting tomato seeds. Before I could even say anything to her she just said, 'For Mom'.

I know I complain about Jane a lot but she's been a huge help lately. Not only does she made sure Daniel is feed and bathed but she helps teach him his skills. I suppose it's nice to have her around...sometimes.

I have to admit there's nothing better then a nice relaxing bath after a long day. I couldn't imagine not having enough running water to take a bath and to think my own dad didn't have this luxury until he was in college. Wow!

Jane and I were both at work when Cass went into labor with Marcheline. She confessed she was a bit scared but it helped that she'd already gone through it once with Daniel. I can't believe I have a boy and a girl. This is not exactly how I saw my life going.

Although, my life may have taken a different turn then what I initially thought I loved Cass and I knew we'd spend the rest of our lives together. I figured it was high time I do the proper thing so I proposed. Of course, she said yes.

Daniel is growing up so fast. Shortly after we celebrated his sixth birthday Cass found a job in the Music business and every day Daniel is right there when she gets home to give her a big welcome home hug.

It seems to me my sister has a favorite boyfriend. I've seen this one guy, Joe, around a few times. Eh, I don't actually think she'll settle down but it's nice to see someone treating her nice every now and then.

Daniel appears to be a very smart boy. Cass is always telling me how busy he is with learning new things.

I figured with all the hard work Daniel was doing I might be able to get him into private school. Nobody in our family had ever gone and I felt it was extremely important for him to get the best education he could. The headmaster and I hit it off almost immediately. He liked that I worked smart rather then hard and thought Daniel would be a perfect match at his school.

Someone keeps leaving the garbage on our deck instead of putting it in the trash can. I don't know who it is but it's getting annoying. We've all taken turns trying to get rid of the roaches that have popped up as a result, but unless the garbage is put where it belongs we'll never get rid of the roaches.

As Marcheline gets older the resemblence between her and Daniel is unmistakeable. I'd almost think they were twins if they were the same gender.

***I forgot to exit without saving when Cass gave birth so now I'm stuck with sims that have the same facial features and personality. That's just great.

Jane has no shame. She'll make a move on just about any guy. I can't help but shake my head at some of the things I hear her tell random neighbors.

Things went from bad to worse one day. First, Cass started a fire in our kitchen. Thankfully, she was able to put it out and nobody was harmed.

Then, Jane came home and told us she was fired. I couldn't believe it. This is the second job she'd been fired from. She seriously needs to get her act together. The worst part was she was just one position away from becoming a Media Magnate.

End Entry

I had planned on ending this chapter when Jane topped her career but when she got fired again I decided I better end it there. The chapter would have been way too long otherwise. I think she's the first sim in my apo to actually be fired. I've had other sims quit their job because they failed to go to work but never had a sim fired. I guess it was bound to happen eventually. Better now then earlier on too.

I've already started playing the family some more so hopefully there'll be another update within a month.
